Nashville, it seems, is just as great as you think it is.
Readers of Southern Living magazine deemed Music City one of the best cities in Dixie, proclaimed our breakfast restaurants darn good and said the shopping in Green Hills rivals anything in Atlanta or New Orleans.
Results of the "reader's choice awards" are in the magazine's January issue, on newsstands now.
"People can come do their grocery shopping, then grab some apparel for that night, all in a convenient, friendly atmosphere," says Beth Franklin, 28, store manager at Posh Boutique at the Hill Center in Green Hills, a Green Hills resident and avid shopper in the neighborhood.
Green Hills was voted seventh in the Top 10 list of best neighborhoods for shopping, behind Buckhead and Virginia Highland in Atlanta, King Street in Charleston, S.C., Magazine Street and the French Quarter in New Orleans and Homewood in Birmingham, Ala.
From new additions, such as the Hill Center, to favorite oldies, such as Levy's, Green Hills has some of the city's fanciest shops, plus a bit of everything else, from tree nurseries to fair trade.
Other Nashville-area favorites on the list:
Best Southern city: Nashville came in fifth; Charleston, S.C., was first.
Best restaurant for breakfast or brunch: Loveless Cafe, fifth, and Pancake Pantry, sixth.
Best Southern restaurant: Loveless Cafe was fifth.
Best small town: Franklin was fifth.
Best hotel: Gaylord Opryland Resort & Convention Center came in second.
Best public garden: Cheekwood Botanical Garden was 10th.
"It reaffirms the uniqueness of Cheekwood and its remarkable landscape," says Jack Becker, Cheekwood's president and CEO.
More than 47,000 readers of the Birmingham, Ala.-based magazine voted.
