Johnny Cash parents’ home is for sale on eBay

By ERIC MILLER • Gannett Tennessee • June 19, 2008

HENDERSONVILLE — The former home of Johnny Cash's parents is up for sale.

The house was given to Ray and Carrie Cash when they moved back from California in 1969, said Tommy Cash, Johnny Cash's brother, a country music singer and realtor. They lived there until their deaths.

Since then, the house had been owned by different members of the Cash family. Johnny and June Carter Cash lived there while an elevator was being installed in their lakeside home in 2003, the year of their deaths, Tommy Cash said.

Four years ago, Floyd Robinson purchased the property. Robinson, 74, a long-time friend of Johnny Cash, said he is selling the property to move to Florida for health reasons.

Robinson has renovated the home, but some things, such as the arrangement of the kitchen, remain the way they were when Ray and Carrie Cash lived there.

"It still had the homeliness that it had when mom and daddy were alive," Tommy Cash said. "He's done a wonderful job of renovating the house."

Robinson is asking $1.4 million for the home, according to a listing on eBay.

The house has four bedrooms and three bathrooms and overlooks Old Hickory Lake, and a recording studio added as part of the renovation.

It is across the street from the site of Johnny and June Carter Cash's mansion, according to the listing. The mansion burned in April of last year not long after it was purchased by Barry Gibb of the Bee Gees.

Memorabilia included

Robinson's collection of Cash family memorabilia is included with the house.

Whoever purchases the house will get a gold record of "I Walk the Line," guitars owned by Johnny Cash, a locket containing pictures of Johnny and June Carter Cash, several awards, and other items, according to the listing.

Robinson, a former musician, said he is considering advertising the home in Europe, where Johnny Cash remains very popular.

"It takes just one Johnny Cash fan, and it'll be gone," Robinson said.

The house is being shown by appointment only.
